One Step Further

So often we hear people say, "Knowledge is Power!" But is this true? Where did this phrase come from? Why do people recite it? What does this phrase mean?

If "Knowledge is Power!", why is it that so many children and youth, who attend schools with great teachers and are surrounded with a strong curriculum, tools and the resources they need to succeed, still grow up to become illiterate adults?

Now, don't get me wrong, I am a BIG supporter of education.

I spend quite a bit of time collecting information and studying a variety of topics. In fact, not only am I a Personal Development Guru, but I am also a Community Educator for adult women and teenage girls addressing topics that span from Leadership Skills for Women to The Young Woman's Guide for Personal Success. I've even volunteered for 3 years as a Community Educator for the American Cancer Society, addressing Women's Cancer Issues.

Over the years, I've addressed a variety of learning institutions that range from elementary schools to universities. I've co-authored 3 books, etc..... But tonight, as I thought about this phrase, I had to ask myself, "What does the phrase 'Knowledge is Power!' mean?" "Do I agree with this phrase?" "Why does it seem like something is missing?" Maybe because it is!

Oftentimes, we pick up phrases that sound good, so we use them without really analyzing what the phrase is saying. The phrase, "Knowledge is Power!" I believe, is one of those phrases. Not because the phrase in and of itself is inaccurate, but because we don't take the time to dissect what is beneath the surface of phrases such as this one.

Let me explain.

On the surface, having knowledge of something has to do with a general or in dept understanding or awareness of the subject at hand. It may even involve personal experience with the subject. But does general or in dept understanding, awareness or even personal experience of any given subject give one power?

If I believe something is missing, than what is it? What do I believe is the missing link?

Well, I'm glad you asked.

I believe the missing link is the absence of teaching not from the core of the curriculum, but the absence of teaching from the student's core.

The core is that central, inner portion, or essential part that goes far beneath the surface.

With that being said, what is the student's core and how do we, as educators, knowing that each individual student is different and brings to the table, varying life experiences and cultures, reach the core level of each student?

This question is a challenge, to which, I don't have an absolute answer.

However, I do believe, that the answer lies within allowing the student's to teach us, the educators!

What if students began by holding informal, mini-workshops, that they would put together and we, as parents and educators would attend? Not only would educators be required to attend, but we could earn C.E.U. credits?

What if these informal, mini-workshops were created by the student's to reflect what they have learned from the subjects that we taught them? All the while, we would be observing them to determine their individual core? Because we would allow them to teach us in a manner that works best for them, (In taste, of course!), we would not limit them to only speaking in front of us with visual aides, but we would allow them to simultaneously use multiple learning styles if they so choose.

As we observe them, we would for instance, be able to read from their body language and their vocal tone, what excites them! For some, maybe they would teach via in writing or through the creation of a computer game, (In taste, of course!), or some other form of media outlet. Maybe then, we would know where their individual core lies and expand our curriculum to reflect our findings.

The student's would also get credit for their individual participation.

The possibilities are endless! And yet a far way off - Or maybe not!

Let's add to the previous phrase by reciting, "Knowledge is Power! (When taught from the student's core!)"

Be Blessed!

Dearest Ladies of Elegance and Distinction,

"Now Is The Time!"

"Now Is The Time" to step forward into our calling, our destiny, our next level! We have been ordained for "Greatness!" for "Success!", God favor's US!

"Now Is The Time!"

"Now Is The Time" to break down the walls that have encased us, blocking us from our hopes and dreams; blocking our view of the vision that God has placed in OUR SPIRIT!

"Now Is The Time!"

"Now Is The Time!" to take down our giants! The giants of negativity within our self; the giants of negative people who don't understand nor believe in us and the calling upon our life! The calling to live a life of empowerment; the calling to empower others!

"Now Is The Time!"

"Now Is The Time!" to put to death the demon of debt, lack, and insufficient funds! For the God we serve promised to supply all of our needs according to His riches in Glory! (Philippians 4:19)

"Now Is The Time!"

"Now Is The Time!" to defeat fear! The fear of failure, the fear of success, the fear of the unknown! "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind". (2 Timothy 1:7)

Ladies of Elegance and Distinction!

God has called us to a position, a standard of "Excellence". We need not settle for anything less. We need not compromise ourselves, our values, and our integrity for the things of this world!

When we realize who we are in Christ Jesus, we can walk in boldness without compromise! We can speak a prophetic word over our lives and the lives of others because we are so connected to the Master Prophet!

Romans 12:2 states: "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

"Now Is The Time" to live out the truth! The truth of who God has created you to be and what God has created you to do!

Do not delay another day, another hour, another minute, nor another second! God has already made provision for everything you need! It's up to you!

When I Think of YOU!

Recently, I had the honor of speaking to the students of South High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The occasion was a ceremony/reminder for two students who lost their life due to violence.
The theme for the day was entitled, "Peace, Hope, and Resilience" and although I wrote this message especially for them, I would like to share some excepts from that message with you because my belief in you as a young person is just as passionate as my belief in the students of South High.

Enjoy & Be Blessed!!

"When I think of Greatness – I think of YOU!"
Who else but you can still thrive amidst a society that has deemed you incompetent because they don't understand your language, your style, your authenticity!
Who else but you can genuinely smile and shake hands with your so – called friends, (for you know they are only haters!). Haters of your potential, haters of your strength, haters of your tenacity, haters of your divine favor!
But young man, young woman – "You were born to Succeed!"
You were created in the image and likeness of the Creator! The Creator of Excellence! The Creator of Greatness!
"Therefore, when I think of Greatness – I think of YOU!"

"When I think of Hope – I think of YOU!"
Who else but you can turn hope into reality! The reality of a better world; the reality of a better people!
Ladies and gentlemen, I need YOU! Society needs YOU! For without you, there is no hope!
"And that is why, when I think of Hope – I think of YOU!"

"When I think of Peace – I think of YOU!"
Who else but you can stop the hate, stop the violence, stop the madness! If not you, who?
"When I think of Peace – I think of YOU!"

"When I think of Resilience – I think of YOU!"
You survived 100,000 sperm to get here!

When I think of Resilience – I think of YOU!"
Who else but you can bounce back and rebuild after the storms of live have flooded your backyard, leaving spiritually, psychologically, and physically in ruins. (And yet, you're still here!)

When I think of Greatness………………!
When I think of Hope…………………….!
When I think of Peace………………..!
When I think of Resilience………….!
"When I think of a better world – I think of YOU!"

Watch Your Mouth!

Dearest Women and Young Ladies of Elegance and Distinction,

I want to Encourage, Inspire, and Empower YOU!

I want you to know that you have so much to offer the world! You are "Royalty!" "YOU are a QUEEN and YOU DESERVE to be treated as such - However, "Royalty" starts with YOU!

Women and Young Ladies of Elegance and Distinction,

You belong to God, you were created in His image and likeness, (Genesis 1:27). Not just in appearance but also in your character and in the words that go forth out of your mouth!

Your words have the power to speak life and death to yourself, to others, to your circumstances and to your future!

So Speak Life!

Words of negativity, destruction and foul language should not be a part of your vocabulary.

As women and young ladies of "Royalty", you have a high calling, a responsibility to order your life in such a way that your very presence should speak volumes to those who see you from afar. Then, when you open your mouth, words of strength, elegance, hope, peace, joy, love, words of power to empower, should spring forth!

Let Such Words Flow From Your Mouth!

It is not very becoming for a woman and a young lady of your "Royal" caliber to speak foul, destructive language. Not only is it beneath you, it stains your presence and your character, lowering you to a status, a position that was not created for you. This, my friend is a "demotion" - Not a "promotion". Why settle for less than God's best?

"Royalty Begins With YOU!"

Decide today to order your life according to the manufacture's manual - 'The word of God - The Bible'.

Let the word of God saturate your mind, convert your heart, empower your soul, deliver you from sin, heal your brokenness, transform your life, renew your mind, and enable you to

Encourage, Inspire, and Empower Someone Else!

Make this your daily prayer:

"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, Oh LORD, my strength and my redeemer", (Psalms 19:14)

If you put these words into action your "Royalty" status will follow!

"Here's To The Queen In YOU!"

Be Blessed!
